The post card depicts the east front of Mount Vernon facing the Potomac River. The Mansion was expanded between 1774 and 1787 with colonnades extending to the office and kitchen wings. Mount Vernon is currently owned and maintained by the Mount Vernon Ladies Association of the Union which was founded in 1853 for the purpose of preserving the home and tomb of George Washington.
