The postcard features an image of the Hugh Mercer Apothecary Shop in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The shop was operated by Dr. Hugh Mercer, a physician, soldier, and patriot, from 1771 to 1776. Mercer was a close friend of George Washington, who used a small library in the building as his office.
