The First Presbyterian Church of Staten Island was organized in 1856 in Clifton as an offshoot of the Reformed Dutch Church of Stapleton, which had originated from a Sunday School Mission. In 1868, the congregations merged at the current location on Brownell and Tompkins Streets in Staten Island.
