The postcard features the Horseshoe Curve on U.S. Route 50 in West Virginia, specifically east of Grafton and Clarksburg. The Northwestern Turnpike, which is now U.S. Route 50, was originally proposed by George Washington in 1784 as a route from Virginia to the Ohio River.
